Mica is a large part of the electrical industry. It has dielectric strength, low level power loss, and it can momentarily store electrostatic energy. Mica can withstand immense voltage and some kinds can also withstand temperatures as high as 1000 degrees Celsius! It creates safe pathways for electricity to travel. Muscovite, the principal mica used by the electrical industry, is used in capacitors that are ideal for high frequency and radio frequency. In the paint industry, ground mica is used to facilitate suspension, reduce chalking, prevent shrinking and shearing of paint film, increase resistance of the paint film to weathering, and brighten the tone of colored pigments.
Mica is also mixed with Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxides to be used in mineral make up or cosmetics.
